HI! I’m Grace!
A few things have remained of interest to me throughout my life, all of which I attribute to my pursuit of a career in photography: animals (yes, the cute ones make me cry), documentation (from keeping journals to a love for photos and preserving memories), and a fascination with all things vintage (books, cameras, clothes, furniture, art).
Initially, my passion for documentation and animals led me to consider a career in wildlife photography. My goal was to capture awe-inspiring moments in nature for those who couldn't experience them firsthand. Early on, I realized that a career in wildlife didn’t align with my life goals although it is still a hobby that I enjoy today.
This realization redirected my focus to photographing people, particularly weddings and events as it scratched my itch to capture raw, unhindered moments. I also love everything about weddings—the joy being experienced, the joining of people, the memories being made, and the dancing (especaillyyyy the dancing)- so changing the focus of my career seemed like an obvious choice.
Once I had found my focus, I had to find my style. Finding your style as a photographer is hard. It takes lots of trial and error (at least it did for me). I went through phases of over-editing, under-editing, and driving myself crazy. Some of this I blame on growing up in the era of social media where it became all too easy to slap a filter on anything to make it “pretty”. Thankfully, this trend got old for me quickly as I became annoyed by the filters that were altering reality- and honestly- distort images. As a lover of documentation, the casual acceptance of changing images to fit unrealistic standards really saddened me. And I’m not talking small edits, but changing everything about a photo.
Hence, I began the journey of deciding how I’d edit my photos. My desire is to document honestly, enhancing the beauty of situations tastefully, without taking away from the intended purpose of the image. In the photographer realm, this is called “true to life” editing.
Photography is an art that has rules which can be followed or broken to achieve specific goals. It is mostly subjective. Though my main goal is honest documentation, some situations require tasteful direction for a visually satisfying narrative. As a result, my work includes creative posing and directing to achieve a compilation of :
Traditional photos for framing,
Unique images full of emotion, and,
Candid, completely natural moments.
Lastly, my appreciation for things that stand the test of time contributes to my final work as I want my photos to exude a classic, vintage feel- without being dated.
Good photos age with grace (HA, get it?). With natural editing, light posing, and real moments- authentic and timeless photos are assured.
My goal is to help curate and document moments that might otherwise be forgotten, preserving them with a classic edits to ensure they will age while remaining true to your experience.
If you made it through that book, and want you want to know more about my interests outside of photography, enjoy some my favorite photos I’ve taken as well as..
